Topbloke Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 doe's anybody know how to test these type of sensor, my mates are going constant as soon as you select reverse i dont even know how they work i know the principle but would appreciate some more input Quote
Jim Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 They should initially beep once or twice when reverse gear is engaged. Then as you reverse towards an object, the beeps should get closer together, until eventually you get so close that it becomes a single constant beep. Hope thats what you meant in your question? Not that if you are a few metres away from anything, they should not beep at all after the initial couple of beeps. (I think the initial beeps are just to let you know they are working). Does your mate have a towbar fitted - some of these can confuse the sensors? Quote
NikpV Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 If it's suddenly started doing this then give them a wipe over - worked for ours a couple of weeks ago (according to SWMBO) Quote
Guest nimrod Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Does he have front and rear sensors or just rear sensors? depending on where the tone is coming from will indicate which system is playing up? front or rear! if he has just rear sensors check the mounting of them is ok? check them for any dirt stuck on the sensor and check the rear fogs are working ok! :o dont ask me why but its one of the options listed on the TIS to check! also if you have access to a code reader check the codes as there is a big list of codes for the parking aids! Guest JIMSTDI Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 might be worth checking both speakers rear parking sensors speaker is in ns rear compartment as you open up the tailgatefront is under the passengers front seat also are the reverse lights working as this gives the signal to activate the sensors might be worth checking(also has others said wipe over the sensors on the bumpers also your parking aid module is under the passengers front seat all the best james Quote
Topbloke Posted July 2, 2004 Author Report Posted July 2, 2004 many thanks what i was looking for was a resistance or a voltage to check he only has rears, bumper has slight damage and if i remove the sensor where the damage is it stll sounds constant Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 does the rear parking aid speaker bleep for 5 seconds and then goes off or does it last longer parking aid module is under the passengers front seat Quote
GaryM Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 many thanks what i was looking for was a resistance or a voltage to check he only has rears, bumper has slight damage and if i remove the sensor where the damage is it stll sounds constant I'm not sure electically what signals come out but from recolection there are three wires. I would imaging two will be power and ground with the other being the output. The sensor actaully consists of a Piezo transducer that emmits ultrasonic signals and measures the time for them to return. Anything in the way changes this time. The deep constant tone which you are getting sounds as though you have a fault. Further proved by the fact that you get the same noise when you unplug the sensor. As far as I can tell this is done so that you don't reverse merrily thinking it is all woking OK and then you hit some thing. I'm not sure but I think the guy that designed this system is the same one that did the air conn :o I my experience the best way to test the system is to borrow one off a working car and swap out each sensor one at a time. Our system was faulty as you described when we first got our. In the end I found a duff sensor on the front. Further investigation revealed that the prevoius owner had a scrape along the bump strip. Taking this off I found the sensor in two halves. Quote
